His debut memoir, Every Other Weekend: Coming of Age With Two Different Dads (Koehler Books), was published in 2023. From 1994 to 2021, he served as a judge on the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles. He still sits on a part-time basis and, on two occasions, became a judge pro tem on the California Court of Appeal. He is a 2021 fellow at Harvard's Advanced Leadership Initiative.
