Minor
The premise is that a Redbird
will not rest until he’s called
up, a Cardinal; the premise is
that Bees envy Angels, Sounds
Brewers, and that to play
in the minors means discontent.
I would love to believe, though,
that among the second-best
fielders there is a philosopher
who does not particularly wish
to rise in the ranks. I only need
one: a Rainier to dismiss
the metaphor of ascent, a Saint
to play all summer as if minor
were not his league but his key.
