Deep Calls to Deep

“Who can stand on a distant shore and dream
himself across the ocean?” In the course

on miracles, forgiveness is the stream
we wash our feet in; love is a deep force

for the space traveler riding his horse
through the stars toward home. To extend grace

requires accepting grace—here I endorse
your presence with oil spread atop your face

looking up at me, my shadow, the place
beyond where the sun holds this darkened sea

like a child. The tiny man on shore—vase
of hope on the horizon—waves back. See?

Someone is calling you. Someone is here
with songs for the birds, water for the deer.
